Public schools in America are obsessed with one thing. Critical Thinking ..no. Communication skills and the arts...no. Its all about passing a standardized test. A test that public schools spend 1.7 billion on annually. There is big money in selling math textbooks/preperation books. So much money and classroom time is spent on this test and not the skillsets that are practical to the real world.
I see the same thing occuring in architecture and construction. Everyone is obsessed with BIM (building information modeling). BIM requires you to use 1 software package, and the software is optimized to use only standard products and ways of building...great for them. Architects, Contractors, Subcontractors, sub sub contractors all are required to buy this software and oversized computers. Meanwhile with all this gear and management, the average architectural design has become worse and more generic. Entry level designers and architects seem to be overwhelmed with the technology and not spending that time designing. Most revit drawings come out at a lower quality , with details hand cleaned by an architect..hopefully.
